Grammy-nominated vocal acrobats (and certifiable nutjobs) THE BOBS bring their unclassifiable blend of comedy and music back to Chicago this fall, touring with their 14th album, Get Your Monkey Off My Dog. Classics will be skewered, rules broken.
The Bobs have played everywhere from Lincoln Center to Los Angeles’ Universal Amphitheater to Berlin’s Passionkirche, amazing audiences with their unique, ASCAP-award winning original material and audacious cover tunes (from Bach to Hendrix and back, via Louis Jordan and Leonard Cohen).
Together since 1981, the original “band without instruments” has released 13 albums and several concert DVDs. A documentary about the group, SIGN MY SNARLING MOVIE: 25 YEARS OF THE BOBS is slated for release and festival appearances later this year.
The Bobs’ endurance is trumped only by their unrivaled creativity as they continue to infect audiences with their humor and musicality. To quote a recent review, “At an age when most surviving pop groups grind out a living with warmed over retreads of greatest hits, the Bobs still shine, breaking new ground each time they tunnel out of the sanitorium. The twin keys to the group's creative safe deposit box are unflagging dedication to vocal excellence and utter disregard for everything else. The Capitol Steps are occasionally as funny, and the Roches and the Mockingbirds sometimes achieve similar a capella excellence.”
“According to inside sources, the Bobs are the unclassifiable a cappella antidote to modern technology. In short, they're kind of like Rockapella, but with a sorely needed sense of humor”Seattle Weekly
“The Bobs are unique, hilarious and extremely entertaining...a polished act with an endearing quirkiness and stunning proficiency...truly in a league of their own...haunting vocals that spark the imagination...Whether they’re emulating an instrument or actually singing real words, this act consistently provokes responses ranging from laughter to awestruck shock.... The Bobs are a must-see for anyone who likes their fancy tickled...a cross between a phenomenal choral group and an improv comedy troupe...” -Music Connection, Los Angeles
“The Bobs don’t seem to respect too much at all - and that’s just part of their irresistible charm. They bend the boundaries, kick big holes in the fence, then laugh their way right through and drag their fans with them.” The Daily Gazette, Schenectady
